Home Energy Audits

SMW Refrigeration & Heating is a BPI Goldstar Contractor

SMW works with Building Performance Institute, Inc. to receive business-to-business mentoring and training with industry experts to stay up to date and knowledgeable. We employ BPI Certified Professionals who know how to improve a home’s energy efficiency while providing important safety testing, such as carbon monoxide and combustion appliance safety checks. They also have the know-how to help prepare your home for solar, geothermal, or other types of energy upgrades.

SMW’s certified Building Analyst will assess your home’s building envelope, heating, air conditioning, insulation, mechanical ventilation, lighting, appliances, and other systems, and then trace any problems to their root causes. You will receive a final report with prioritized solutions specific to your home that will give you the best return on your investment.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Your energy audit will be conducted by a highly-trained and BPI certified Building Analyst.
  • They will thoroughly analyze your home to find out where it is losing energy.
  • You will be provided with the specific details of how to fix the issues, including a detailed report outlining how much deficiencies found are costing you, repair costs to correct the deficiencies, return on investment estimates as well as savings to investment ratios.

Here are some common problems an Energy Audit can identify and solve:

  • High utility bills
  • Hot rooms
  • Very long or very short air conditioner run times
  • High or low indoor humidity
  • Excessive dust
  • Frequent allergy symptoms or illnesses in your family

Here is how we will identify these issues:

SMW’s Building Analyst will be using some sophisticated testing equipment to evaluate your home, including thermal imaging cameras, a blower door, combustion analyzers, and more. As always, safety first. If you have gas appliances in your home, your analyst will first confirm that all gas appliances are safe for whole home depressurization. Then they will depressurize your home using a blower door. Thermal images will be taken at various intervals throughout this process. While your home is depressurized, your building envelope and duct work will be tested for leakage. If you have an attic, that’s their next stop. Your analyst will physically access your attic space to evaluate and photograph your insulation, ductwork, ventilation, and gas flues. That’s right, they check everything.

Once your Energy Audit is complete, your Building Analyst will take all that data back to the office and plug it into our audit software to generate your report. We will email your report and then schedule either a phone call or in home visit to review your results and options.
