Most AC units installed over the last couple of decades are single-stage systems. They operate exactly like a light switch—they are either 100% ON or 100% OFF.
When your central thermostat reads that the house is warm, it kicks that single-stage compressor on at full blast. It pushes a massive volume of freezing cold air into the house as quickly as possible until the hallway thermostat is satisfied, and then it aggressively shuts down.
That’s why you get those "ice-cold" blasts followed by stuffy heat.
Because these older systems blast cold air and shut down so fast, they simply don't run long enough to pull the latent humidity out of your indoor air.
This is especially miserable during the Arizona monsoon season when the air is thick and sticky. Furthermore, that constant, violent start-up requires a massive surge of electrical amperage, which wears your internal motors and compressor parts down much faster than necessary.

What is Inverter-Driven Variable Speed Technology? Think of variable-speed technology like a dimmer switch or "cruise control" for your air conditioner. Instead of violently blasting at 100% capacity all the time, an inverter-driven compressor can adjust its speed in tiny, precise increments to match the exact cooling load your house actually needs.
If it's a mild 85-degree spring day, the system might only run at 30% capacity. If it's 115 degrees in mid-July, it ramps up to 100%.
By running continuously at lower, quieter speeds, variable-speed systems provide superior dehumidification, eliminate the temperature swings that cause stuffy heat, and drastically extend the life of your equipment because the motors aren't constantly starting and stopping.
How Precision Zoning Actually Works By installing motorized dampers—which act like electronic valves to regulate airflow inside your ductwork—and putting extra smart thermostats in specific rooms, we give you total control of the airflow in your home.
In the old days, HVAC contractors tried to zone single-stage systems, but it caused massive problems with "static pressure." If you close off half the vents in your house, the blower is still pushing 100% of its air into half the space.
This builds up severe pressure, creates a loud whistling noise at the vents, and can even freeze your evaporator coil. To fix this, old systems relied on a "bypass damper", which essentially dumped the excess cold air back into the return duct—a highly inefficient workaround.
We do things differently. By pairing zoning with a variable-speed blower, our advanced control panels use something called "zone weighting."
The control board calculates exactly how many zones are calling for air. If only your master bedroom (which makes up 25% of your ductwork) needs cooling, the control board talks directly to the variable-speed blower and tells it to slow down to 25% capacity.
This eliminates the need for inefficient bypass dampers, prevents restrictive static pressure problems, and puts the perfect amount of conditioned air exactly where you want it.
